Magicard Ultima Printer Support FAQs

How do I install the driver?

  1. To install the Magicard driver, you need to insert the CD ROM into your computer. It should automatically run, but if it doesn’t click the ‘Start’ button and then click ‘Run’. Type “D:\autorun” into your computer’s search function if you can’t find it.
  2. Now follow the on’screen instructions. The installation procedure is the same for Ethernet except you will be prompted to enter an IP Address. You should note that the printer is designed to retrieve a “Dynamic” IP Address. A “Static” mode and IP Address configuration can be updated via the printer’s LCD screen.
  3. Once the driver installation is complete, connect the USB cable and restart your computer.
  4. When this is complete, you should now see the installed driver icon under the ‘Devices and Printers’ window on your computer. Your driver is now installed and ready to use.

How do I access 'Driver Preference Settings'?

To access Driver Preference Settings, find the Magicard Ultima in the ‘Devices and Printers’ folder, right-click on the icon and select ‘Printing Preferences’. The Printer Driver contains a built-in help file (in HTML format). This help file is incredibly useful and will give you clear explanations of all driver settings.

To view it, go to the ‘Printing Preferences’ as described above and click on the ‘Help’ button at the bottom of the window.

How do I access the 'Help' menu on the Ultima?

The Ultima features a built-in Help feature. To access the ‘Help’ menu from the LCD screen, tap on the ‘Help’ tab. Clicking on any of the Menu Buttons will display a short animation showing the process you’ve selected.

How do I access the cleaning menu?

To access the cleaning menu, simply tap the ‘Cleaning’ options from the home screen on the LCD display and follow the on-screen instruction. To carry out a full clean you’ll need to remove a card hopper, the film cassettes and use an official Magicard cleaning kit.

How do I replace the cleaning roller?

To replace the cleaning roller, high the roller cover forward. Unclip the used cleaning roller and slide out the steel bar. You should not discard the bar. Slide the steel bar into the new cleaning roller and remove the paper protective wrapper from the outer layer of the roller. Now clip the new cleaning roller into the printer and close the cleaning roller cover.

How do I use a cleaning card?

To use a cleaning card, remove it from its protective packaging and peel off the backing paper. Select the cleaning option on the printer’s LCD display and follow the on-screen instructions. Feed the cleaning card into the printer when prompted.

How do I clean the print head?

To clean the print head, you should use a cleaning swab. Remove the film cartridge from the printer, and run the swab repeatedly along the front face of the print head.

How do I clear a card jam?

To clear a card jam in the Magicard Ultima, follow the procedure outlined below:

  1. Remove the card feel hopper.
  2. Open the printer door and remove the film cassette. You might need to turn the upper transfer film spool clockwise in order to free the film from the card if adhesion has occurred.
  3. Now close the door. The printer will perform an initialisation routine and attempt to eject the card.
  4. If this doesn’t work and a card jam error is reported, select the ‘retry’ option on the LCD screen when prompted and the printer will carry out an alternative routine.
  5. If this still fails to eject the card and the error is still displayed, open the door and see if you can locate the card’s position.
  6. If accessible from the card feed area, attempt to retrieve the card by hand. If this isn’t possible, use the ‘Move card’ feature which will turn the drive rollers in the required direction in order to free the card. If you use this method, the card will be ejected from the right-hand side of the printer via the feed hopper.

Can I upgrade the Ultima for dual-sided printing?

The Ultima can be supplied as a single-sided (UNO) or dual-sided (DUO) printer. The UNO can be upgraded and retro-fitted for dual-sided printing at a later date. The upgrade can be done remotely using Magicard’s Customer Support Portal and is downloaded to the printer via the driver.
