How do I resolve a broken ribbon?

To resolve a broken ribbon in the HDP5000:

  1. The printer has determined that the installed ribbon has either jammed or broken.
  2. Open the Printer Cover and remove the Print Ribbon. If ribbon is jammed, remove jam and tighten ribbon.
  3. Clear any cards in the printer by using the Forward and/or Back buttons located on the Printer’s LCD display.
  4. Tape the ends of the Ribbon together and wind any excess onto the Take-up Spool of the Print Ribbon.
  5. Re-install the Print Ribbon, close the Printer Cover and press the Resume button located on the Printer’s LCD display to continue printing.
  6. To cancel the print, press the Cancel Print button from the Driver’s display dialog and the Cancel button located on the Printer’s LCD display.
  7. If your ribbon is repeatedly breaking, carry out a printer cleaning cycle to ensure any dust or debris that could be causing the problem is removed.

How do I resolve a card jam in the HDP5000?

The way of resolving card jams will depend on where in the printer has occurred, but in most cases, it will occur in the flipper area, the smart card encoding area, lamination area or the retransfer printing area. 

  1. Open the Printer’s Front Cover and remove the
    Print Ribbon and Film Cartridges. 
  2. Clear any cards in the printer by using the Forward
    and/or Back Buttons located on the printer’s LCD
    display.
  3. Re-insert the Ribbon and close the Printer’s Front
    Cover.
  4.  Press the Resume button located on the Printer’s
    LCD display to continue printing.
  5. To Cancel the print, press the Cancel Print button
    from the Driver’s display dialog and the Cancel
    button located on the Printer’s LCD display.
  1. Open the Printer’s Front Cover and the Flipper
    Module Cover.
  2. Clear any cards in the Flipper Table by using the
    Forward and/or Back buttons located on the
    Printer’s LCD display.
  3. Close the Printer’s Front Cover.
  4. Press the Resume button located on the Printer’s
    LCD display to continue printing.
  5. To cancel the print, press the Cancel Print button
    from the Driver’s display dialog or the Cancel
    button on the Printer’s LCD display.
  1. Open the Printer’s Module’s Front Cover and
    remove the Overlaminates.
  2. Clear any cards in the Lamination Module by using
    the Forward Arrow and/or Back Arrow buttons
    located on the Printer’s LCD display. The Printer’s
    Front Cover must be open for use of the Forward
    and Back buttons.
  3. Re-insert the Overlaminate(s) and close the Lam
    Module’s Front Cover.
  4. Press the Resume button located on the Printer’s
    LCD display to continue printing.
  5. To cancel the print, press the Cancel Print button
    from the Driver’s display dialog or the Cancel
    button on the Printer’s LCD display.

How do I change the printer ribbon?

The below video shows you the correct way to remove the cartridges, removing ribbon and film, inserting the new cartridge and replacing the cleaning roller. 

How do I calibrate the ribbon sensors?

To calibrate the HDP5000’s ribbon sensors: 

  1. Go to ‘Devices and Printers’ folder and right-click on the Fargo HDP5000. 
  2. Choose ‘Printing Preferences’ and in the pop-up window that appears, click into ‘ToolBox’ towards the bottom of the screen.
  3. Click on the ‘Calibrate Ribbon’ tab, ensure you’ve carried out all the instructions and then click ‘Calibrate’.

How do I calibrate film sensors?

To calibrate the HDP5000’s film sensors:

  1. Go to ‘Devices and Printers’ folder and right-click on the Fargo HDP5000. 
  2. Choose ‘Printing Preferences’ and in the pop-up window that appears, click into ‘ToolBox’ towards the bottom of the screen.
  3. Click on the ‘Calibrate Ribbon’ tab, ensure you’ve carried out all the instructions and then click ‘Calibrate’.

How do I clean the HDP5000?

In our video below, we show you how to correctly carry out a thorough cleaning cycle of your HDP5000 including demonstrating how to prepare it, clean the rollers, cleaning the print head and cleaning the outside of the printer. 

If you need to adjust the print head power of your HDP5000:

  1. Go to ‘Devices and Printers’ folder. 
  2. Right-click on the Fargo HDP5000 and choose ‘Printing Preferences’.
  3. Click on the ‘Image Colour’ tab and adjust the slider bar for Dye-Sub Intensity (YMC). 
  4. Click ‘OK’ to save any changes you make. 

How do I enable lamination?

To enable lamination on the HDP5000: 

  1. Go to ‘Devices and Printers’ folder and right-click on the Fargo HDP5000. 
  2. Choose ‘Printing Preferences’ from the menu that pops up.
  3. Click on the ‘Lamination’ tab and then check the box for whichever side you wish to laminate. 
  4. Click ‘OK’ to save the changes. 

How do I enable dual-sided printing?

To enable dual-sided printing: 

  1. Go to ‘Devices and Printers’ and right-click on the Fargo HDP5000 printer. 
  2. Select ‘Printing Preferences’ from the pop-up menu and click on the ‘Device Options’ tab. 
  3. Tick the box next to ‘Print Both Sides’.
  4. Click ‘OK’ to save changes. 

How do I stop printing incomplete cards with the HDP5000?

Sometimes you may suffer from an incomplete transfer on the first few cards of a print run. To resolve this: 

  1. Ensure you are running the latest driver and firmware updates. 
  2. Go to ‘Devices and Pinters’ and right-click on the Fargo HDP5000.
  3. Click ‘Printing Preferences’ and click on the ‘ToolBox’ button. 
  4. Click on the ‘Advanced Settings’ tab and ensure that the standby and sleep timers are set to 0. 
  5. Set the tranfer temperature offset to -10.
  6. Click the Printer Tool Box. 
  7. Set the transfer dwell time to 2.5 seconds per inch and the transfer temperature to 178.0 Celsius. 

By carrying out the above steps, you should resolve the problem. 

How do I update the firmware?

To update the driver and firmware on the FargoHDP5000, you’ll have to download them using the Fargo Workbench Utility. You can download that here: https://www.hidglobal.com/workbench

After you’ve downloaded the files:

  1. Open the Workbench and choose HDP5000. 
  2. Click on ‘Update Manager’ and choose the HDP5000 again.
  3. Tick the box for ‘Select Firmware File’ and browse to the firmware file you’ve downloaded. 
  4. Now click ‘Begin Updating’. This can take a few minutes to complete. 
  5. Repeat the process but tick ‘Select Driver File’ and browse to the driver file.
