How do I resolve a card jam in the C50?

To resolve a card jam during printing:

  1. Pause your printer.
  2. Open the printer and remove the jam. 

To avoid card jams recurring, it’s really important to carry out regular cleaning of your printer. This will reduce dust and debris – two of the most common causes. If it keeps occurring after a thorough clean, check your cards: they can quite easily pick up dirt and debris too.

How do I stop my ribbon breaking?

To stop your ribbon breaking while printing with a C50, you should: 

  1. Ensure you are running the latest driver and firmware available via the Fargo Workbench Utility. 
  2. Make sure dirt and dust aren’t causing it by carrying out a thorough cleaning cycle to remove any dirt or dust particles that are causing the ribbon to break. 
  3. Ensure the ribbon sensors are calibrated.

If all this has been carried out and your ribbon continues to break, try reducing the printhead power. You can do this by following the steps outlined further down this page. 

How do I update the firmware?

To update firmware on the Fargo C50, download the latest versions from the Fargo Workbench Utility application. If you need to install it, you can download the file at: https://www.hidglobal.com/workbench  

How do I use a cleaning card?

To clean the printer using a cleaning card, enter the ‘Clean Printer’ settings within the ‘Printer Preferences’ window. Click ‘Clean’ and the card will be pulled into the printer. This general cleaning cycle is designed to clean the platen and the card feed rollers inside the printer. 

How do I adjust the print head power?

To adjust the print head power, go to your ‘Devices and Printers’ folder, right-click on the Fargo C50 and click on ‘Printing Preference. Once the window opens, click into the ‘Image Colour’ tab and adjust the slider bar for Dye-Sub Intensity as required. Click ‘OK’ to save any changes. 

How do I calibrate the ribbon sensors?

To calibrate the ribbon sensors: 

  1. In the ‘Devices and Printers’ folder, right-click on the Fargo C50 and click ‘Printing Preferences’.
  2. In the open window, select ‘Tool Box’ towards the bottom of the page. 
  3. Click on the ‘Calibrate Ribbon’ tab and click ‘Calibrate’ after ensuring you’ve followed the instructions listed above. Once complete, your printer ribbon sensors will be correctly calibrated. 

How do I stop the C50 printing black smudges on my cards?

This is a relatively common error when printing with the C50. You can solve it by: 

  1. Go to ‘Devices and Printers’, right-click on the C50 and select ‘Printing Preferences’.
  2. Click into the Tool Box tab at the bottom of the window. 
  3. Click on ‘Advanced Settings’ and scroll to the ‘Resin Heat Adjust’ box.
  4. Click into the table and increase the adjustment value to 0. This should resolve your problem. 

How do I enable dual-sided printing?

To enable dual-sided printing on an equipped C50: 

  1. Go to your computer’s ‘Devices and Printers’ folder and right-click on the Fargo C50. 
  2. Select ‘Printing Preferences’ and click on to the ‘Device Options’ tab. 
  3. Now tick the box named ‘Print Both Sides’. Dual-sided printing is now enabled.
